Sick!

This is awesome man. What are you using to get that bass sound? It's fantastic.

This song or loop or whatever you want to call it is great. I gave it a 5. cheers

DielNefle responds:

A good 'ol subtractor in reason 4. I added some "spices and effects" to make it nice and grimey. glad you like it mate.

Nice work

Hi fellow underrated producer of NG.

What are you using to make those wicked synths? Specifically around 2:15.

And where do you get your samples? Just curious.

I like this track, very sinister. Well structured. I'll give you a ten because I don't feel like finding anything wrong with it at the moment.

Stay golden!

Quarl responds:

I use reason. All the sounds are made either from scratch or reasons built in sound bank. There were a few extra sounds I nabbed from some you tube videos like tiny tim but he's hiding pretty well in that mix.

I gave it a 5, this song deserves a higher score

Wow. This is very well arranged. It would be perfect for a movie scene or video level based in, as you put it, frozen forests. I'm definitely getting that solemn winter vibe from this.

On a different note, what software are you using for those instruments? Is that Edirol Orchestral? Very nice sounding and high quality.

I really don't know what to tell you to improve, as far as I can tell this song has no apparent room for improvement. The ending was great. Maybe for structuring sake, add in a changed-up section near the middle of the song, without the oboe, and try to establish a more serene mood with some different instruments and some same, then build it back up. Just a thought, not a problem with the song. So here's a ten! :D

If you could review or at least listen to a song of mine, it would be awesome, because I don't get much feedback. Either way, hope to see you submitting more in the future!

EagleGuard responds:

Wow, that's a long review. Thanks for taking your time to write it!

I'm using the Miroslav Refills (Similar to a VST but for Reason), made by Sonic Reality.

I put in the oboe in the middle to make it different from the first section. I don't really know how I should change it if I left the oboe out.

Thanks for the review and the 10! And I'll take a look at your songs :)

Nice man.

I love the part around 1:50 and 2:00. It's a nice breakdown, like the eye of the storm. You could even pass it off as drum and bass, but it's not new wave :P
I liked that cool swirly acid-ish synth that played the melody. You got a cool sound going with that.
Maybe try adding in additional instruments? Try a sub bass perhaps.
5/5

Will responds:

Thanks muchly for the review!

Pretty cool, good mastering, Just a few things:

Don't get any wrong ideas from the apparent negativity of this review, I really liked the track overall and gave you a 9, but I'm gonna skip over the good aspects of the song and only include potential areas of improvement in this review cus I don't have much time.

The first thing that stood out was the rise effect in the beginning, you incorporated it well but to be frank its pretty bad quality. Instead of using samples, try making your own (just takes a nice sounding synth and a pitch slide tool), or if you do use samples, find one that's higher quality. Whatever, it's not a big deal, I'm just sayin' cus it was kind of noticeable to me.

The second thing is that the intro was pretty lame. I don't know what else to say, put the vocals there instead or add some ride or high pitched synth with a basic melody? Maybe some sub? Idk. Just a kick and effect rise intro is pretty boring IMO.

The last thing is that the bass melody gets boring, the switch up at :57 is really nicely executed, but if you're tryna make this into a full song you're gonna need a little more melodic diversity. Yes, I realize this is drum and bass, I listen to a lot of it, you're allowed to be repetitive but some more switch ups or add ins would be nice to keep it interesting.

Once again sorry if I'm being a cynical dick, the song sounds real nice, you got those drums near perfect. I'll keep an eye out for new tracks from you!

Peace~

AlexCo responds:

I did make the synth at the start :P

Its a WIP, it wont be finished, and its jsut here for the sake of it.

angryfaic visualization is a necessity for this

great break work! i'm listening to this on pretty low volume out of necessity so i could be wrong, but it sounds like this track could use some more sick sub sound. good use of the vocals. while i do realize this is breakcore, i think if you focused more on bass/synth you could make some really killer dnb tracks. i'll have to check your other stuff out. 10 for props! peace

30 minutes? That's impressive.

Sounds like you had fun with it. I love dicking around with sliced breaks and 8bit synths both alike, combining the two sounds really enjoyable. Not something I would listen to, but it's a pretty cool song.

Very nice!

Great song. This is the hard gritty DnB that the portal lacks. You better keep making this shit :P

what software do you use, just curious? where do you get these breaks/drum samples?

AlexCo responds:

I use FL Studio 9, and I just get massive packs of kick drums and snares that are recorded. I just layer them and compress, chop and EQ till I get a nice punchy Kick, same for the snares. I usually chop up breaks and cut the low and mid for background hats, and use seperate hats for the main break.

cheers. :3

Not bad for a first, not bad at all!

It's cool that it's so short if it's a loop, but when it's a loop try to make it loop better! :P

Cool instruments, though. What program do you use?

con7822 responds:

thanks for the info the program i use is ejay techno 5
